OH SO AWE(WHOLE)SOME! Breakfast Porridges

Hello everyone!

As my friends may know, I may not be the biggest "breakfast" person - mainly because I get gastric reflux if I indulge in a big meal right when I get up. So I'd usually have to let my body adjust to being awake before I can eat any meal.

My typical work day morning sees me getting up about 8:30am, and getting to the office around 9am. I tend to buy my breakfasts at the cafes (Spinelli's breakfast sets own my heart) and by the time I get to eating the first meal of my day, it's at least 10am. I've been this way since school, never eating anything from when I wake till break time, which I guess its why I can't seem to get any food down within the first 2-3 hours of waking up. Let's get real, sleep over anything, everything!

Anyway, one of my favourite meals to have is oatmeal; or if you're from the states / europe / other than Singapore (maybe Asia?), porridge! Whenever I'm having a cold, or just feeling upset, I'd eat some oatmeal with a little condensed milk, and it always instantly makes me feel better.

Creating A Relaxing Work Space For Increased Productivity

Does the physical environment of your workspace stress you out? Maybe your work area is excessively untidy, or your associates are too noisy; Perhaps your manager is continuously looking over your shoulder, or you can't stand the florescent lights. Whatever the cause, there's a decent possibility it's influencing your state of mind and productivity.
2020 hasn't been the kindest on us all *cough* covid-19 *cough*, and most of us have found ourselves working remotely from home instead of being physically in the office. Aside from running BYKRYS, I actually work part time in the healthcare industry as a clinic assistant. I don't know about you, but I get distracted very easily, especially if my work desk is cluttered, because it doesn't give me a conducive environment to work at.

Holy Week - Easter Weekend

It seems like yesterday that Easter was here, and here we are, a year later.

Most of you know that I'm a Christian, so this season is incredibly important to me. Eight years ago, after I turned sixteen, I decided to get Baptised. Baptism is a huge step in a Christian's life, as it's a public declaration of their faith. Life has been such a ride since then, and I'm definitely not the same person I was back then. I wouldn't say I'm a better person, but instead, I hope that I am more mature spiritually.

Easter marks the end of Lent, a traditional time of fasting, and starts off with Holy Week, which started yesterday, also known as Palm Sunday Easter is a holiday where Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, three days after his death. On Easter, Churches are usually decorated with lots of flowers, and have a wide spread of food to feast in after Service.

Growing up, Easter, aside from Christmas, was a fun celebration for me, because it involves a lot of eating! I remember digging into scrambled eggs and pancakes, roast chicken, and hot chocolate. It's not every weekend you get to stuff your face into such a spread, y'know.

Ever since I've started working, I've either had to go in to the office over the weekends, or brought work back home to get done before Monday morning. Thus, I've got a new found appreciation of holiday weekends, especially ones like these, where they not only mean I get to spend time with family and friends, but also because I get to sleep in a little longer, and take my time to whip up a spread! There's absolutely nothing better than sitting around a table with family and friends, just talking about anything, over a good meal.

My favourite meal for such weekends involves pancakes/waffles, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and a good cuppa, along with some juice. I also try to go to the florists to pick up some fresh blooms, so liven up the house (or my room to be specific).  I love the smell of fresh flowers, especially baby breaths and lavender, because they just have the ability to make me happy. #bliss

Do you celebrate Easter? If so, how do you celebrate the holiday weekend? If not, here are some of things I enjoy on a typical holiday weekend, which you can do this Easter weekend:

Go on a hike.
I personally find that taking a stroll or running helps me to clear my head and release pent up anger. Get some friends to go on a nature trail with you, ride a bike, or take part in an activity that gets your blood pumping. You'll enjoy the endorphins your body releases, and there's really nothing better than starting the day feeling fresh and happy.
Have brunch with friends or family.
Who doesn't love brunch, right? Many cafe's and restaurants have special Easter Brunches, with cute bunny / egg themed mains and desserts. These only happen once a year, so might as well take advantage of it!
Make some baked goods.
Aside from running, I love cooking / baking. These activities just seem to be therapeutic for me. This Easter, why not try baking some bunny, chicks, and egg shaped cookies? Everyone loves a cute little snack. Bake some for your colleagues over the weekend, and I'm sure it'll help them get through the Easter Monday blues when everyone returns to work.

Ah, it feels so long since I've had time to sit down, in front of my computer, with no work to think about, just reflecting about life. Now to get back into the habit of reading a book every week. #dreamon #workneverends #werkwerkwerk

Date A Girl Who Writes

Date a girl who writes – who spends her money on books and devouring them, while already thinking about writing the reviews at the back of their minds. She is lost at times, thinking of the right words to say or the most hilarious combination of cliches. It may take time, and the moment of laughing may pass and she will find herself laughing alone with her words. Laugh with her.

Find a girl who writes. For they are the ones who think deeply about life. She doesn’t just let any day goes by but she analyses every single one. She makes sure each one counts. She may look like a serious person, but truth is, she just keeps track on what’s happening around her. She is the type that cares, for she picks up the hint that others have overlooked.

She has an adventurous, magical, wonderful soul inside her. She is open to new things, from traveling to Africa to making coffee, for she knows each one will make a great post. She may be a seventeen-year-old on her very first date or a 37-year-old on his first war. She can do magic. She has imagination. Who knows where she would take you next?

She’s the girl scribbling down words on her overpriced Moleskine notebook during having coffee with you, for she has caught a phrase that she knows it will be such a sin if left undocumented. Wait for her. Let her put down the words. Take time. Talk to her about the most random things. Talk to her about issues dear to her heart. Writers are the most opinionated persons in the world, only if they are given permission to. She knows a lot of things, for she reads widely, but she is humble. For the more she reads, the more she knows that she doesn’t know, and the more she is eager to learn.

If you see that her coffee’s run out, buy her another cup of coffee. She’s not even halfway through talking to you.

Let her know what you really think of J.K Rowling. Or talk about the songs in J. R. R. Tolkien’s book. Talk about politics. She knows her stuff, and she would love to have the chance to show her knowledge. Let her talk about her favourite books and how they have inspired her and what she loves to do during her spare time. Of course, she will tell you she loves to read and to write. Ask anyway.

It’s easy to date a girl who writes. Read her words, every single one of them. Show that you support her. She may be the most insecure person in the world but she has courage to let her art goes to people. Criticise her. Make her writings better. Praise her when her article gets published. Buy her a vintage typewriter, she will definitely fall in love with you for life. Read widely yourself. Tell her something she doesn’t know. Oh, how she loves it when you tell her something she doesn’t know. Yet.

If you find a girl who writes, keep her close. She is the sensitive soul, always thinking of others for she has had her fair share of not thinking of others. True writers know this rule. For their words are often given to public and the actors are their friends and families. She has gotten critics, lots of them. She knows how to handle another one while not ruining herself in the process. But don’t ever hurt a writer, because for sure, she will turn you into a novel.

You will smile so hard when she has that writer’s block. Of course, it’s a lie she creates for herself, and she will love you for life if you have the slightest gift of inspiring her.

If she says she loves you, then it means that she really, really, really loves you. She has read too many love stories not to.

Date a girl who writes because you deserve it. She is the deep thinker, the lover of life, the caring one. She records the little things you do for her. Leave her one-sentence note in her bag as a reminder. Buy her another Moleskine notebook. Give her the full set of trilogy novels. Trust me, among her readers, you’ll become a king.

Find a girl who writes. She is dedicated, hardworking, and committed. She is the one who always sets a higher target, desperately wanting to become a better person, for she knows a good writer does just that. She is the one who wants to key in the hours to hone her craft, and focuses on realising her dream. Who else would be crazy enough to venture to the world of written worlds in the age where the industry is deemed as being in crisis?

Date a girl who writes. She will bring the best out of you. She will be forever grateful of you, for she knows how to love the man she is writing the words for more than the words themselves. And she knows how to live the best story.
